Would you marry someone just for Money???
This is not a standard practice that we hear around us. Every movie or love story novel we have read, we have seen people marry for love or people who have got married because their families decided that it was a good match. This story is about a girl from India who married because of money. Its not about judging her but its about appreciating the determination she had to look out for others.
Her name was Maya and she was a normal Indian girl who went to the local school in her village. Her father was a watchman and her mother cleant the homes of rich people. She had a younger brother who was blind and a sister who was 5 years old. Maya was 12 when her father met with an accident and was killed. At a young age Maya had to crush all her dreams and start helping her mother to clean vessels so that the family could survive. When Maya was 18 she got a chance to go to UK as a maid. She filed her papers and got her visa.
Maya landed in London and everything around her was foreign. She worked hard and sent the money home so that her sister could study in a good school and her mother could retire from the work she was doing. She paid for her brother to study in a school in Bangalore that taught children who were blind. Life was moving on when suddenly the family who she was working for decided to migrate to Norway. Maya was desperate to stay back in the UK so that she could fend for her family.

In her desperation she asked the family if they could get her some work before they left. The family could not help her any longer and Maya had a flight back to India in 2 months. During her stay in the UK Maya approached many families in search for work but all doors closed on her. Finally one guy offered her to come and stay with her in return for marriage. He was 40 years of age and she was 22. Maya looked at him and knew this was her ticket to saving her family. He was rich, her owned properties in London and Hawaii and she only had her heart, her body and her soul to give him.
Maya married him 1 week before she was due to leave the UK. She is now a citizen in the UK and her brother runs a school for the blind, while her sister is a gynecologist in the US.
So was it love or was it money that saved Maya? Would yo take the step that Maya took for her family? What Maya did would you see it as low and unethical? We can talk and gossip about the step that Maya took, but at the end of the day what Maya did for her family some of us who have sufficient money walk away from our families. Some of us don’t even bother to look after our aged parents. When you look at life from this angle Maya is a true hero? Would you agree or disagree?
