In Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, which was released way back in 1998, SRK is asked “Pyaar kya hai? (What is love?)”. He answers “Pyaar dosti hai! (Love is friendship)”. The movie’s premise was based on whether best friends could fall successfully in love. This happened in the movie after a lot of trauma to all the characters involved. But what about real people and real lives?

So for all you guys who are in love with your best friend, here are some tips:

Firstly, observe & find out whether she has similar feelings for you. There are a zillion cases of girls looking at boys as brother figures and then feeling shocked when guys express their feelings. You can speak with a common friend or to one of her best friends in a subtle manner to understand how she views you as.

Also be careful about how you express it to her. Do not say it suddenly or openly. Try to say it in a gentle manner.

Take your time.

Give out harmless, subtle little hints of affections by tellin her things like “Don’t you think we have been just friends for a long time” or “What would I do without you?”. But don’t use them too often.

Try to spend more time together. This might expose you to all her mood swings and will help you decide whether you really love her or no.

Make her laugh as often as you can. Be always there to comfort her when she is feeling sad.

People voted for Obama because he portrayed himself as a President even before he became the President. Similarly start behaving as a prospective boyfriend.  If she is feeling cold, lend her your jacket. If she wants a shoulder to cry on, always be there for her. This will surely make her rate you as great boyfriend material.

Luck plays an important role too.

If it is taking a long time, you might just have to tell her. It is important to wait. But more important to decide whether you have waited for too long. But do be aware of the risks involved. You might lose her as a friend or your friendship might not be as strong as it was earlier. But you will surely have no regrets in your life!
