Story of Birbal - A Tale of the Priest and the Widow
Who does not know about Birbal, he was indeed a wise man and an adviser in the court of Akbar. His stories are famous among kids and adults. Here is a tale about how Birbal resolves a dispute between a priest and a widow. He was indeed wise, intelligent and helped the needy. Hope you like the video
For those of you who are not able to watch the video here is the summary of the story:
One fine day a priest and a widow has a dispute and went to seek advice from birbal
Priest said: Oh wise one this lady is trying to cheat me, her husband had promised to give his cow to me but before he could he passed away
The Widow said: Wise one i am not aware of such a promise and the only income i have is from the cow. Without this i cannot survive.
Birbal said: To resolve this matter lady please go and bring the cow.
The lady returned back with the cow and the calf.
Birbal said: Priest here you go please take the cow as a promise once made should be kept.
The priest was happy and took and cow and was about to take the calf when Birbal said.
Birbal: Priest the promise made was to take the cow and not the calf so you can only take the cow.
Priest: What will i do with this cow, she will not give me enough milk if the calf is not around.
Birbal said: Well if you need to take the calf as well then pay the lady 200 gold coins.
Priest: Thats a lot of coins with that amount i would be able to buy 2 cows and calfs.
Birbal: Well no questions should be asked further the promise needs to be kept. Pay 200 gold coins and take the calf if you wish
Priest: Well i don’t want to take the cow its ok for the widow to keep the cow.
Birbal: No a promise once made should be kept, if you don’t take the cow i shall report you to the king and you can then answer in the king for your behaviour.
The priest did not want the matter to be taken any further and hence decided to pay the lady the 200 gold coins.
Birbal: Now lady here you go give the priest the claf and the cow and with this money you can now double your income and live properly.
